Egg rate by state.

Production is concentrated in the south, demand is spread nationwide, and freight does the rest. That is why the price band across states is wider than most people expect.

Why states differ

Eggs are heavy, fragile and inexpensive per unit, so transport is a large share of the delivered cost. Two clusters dominate national supply: Namakkal in Tamil Nadu and the Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh. States near those clusters print the lowest rates in the country.

At the other end, West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand consume far more than they produce. Loads travel there by rail and road from the south, and the declared rate carries that freight. The gap between the cheapest and dearest state is routinely a rupee or more per egg.

Seasonality moves everything together. Demand rises as the weather cools while laying rates dip, so the national band lifts between November and January and softens through the hottest months. Market-level history shows that pattern clearly over six months.
